Planters Canada
Mr. Peanut was created by a 14 year old schoolboy who drew a picture of a very personable peanut in a contest run by Planters. For more than 75 years Mr. Peanut has appeared on every package of Planters nuts. Planters began as a vision in the mind of a young Italian immigrant named Amedeo Obici.
Amedeo Obici (Ah-may-day-o O-bee-chee), founder of Planter, was born in 1876 in a small town of Oberzo near Venice, Italy. His father died when he was but a child. When Obici was old enough to read, his widowed mother would show him his uncle's glowing letters from America. Thus began Obici's dream. At age eleven, reality had him pulling up at Bush Terminal in Brooklyn, New York. An Italian immigrant, 11 years old, not knowing any English, but going on to become a prosperous business innovator.
Little did he know that the small business he began in 1896 would grow into the world's grandest nut company. For close to 100 years we have built our reputation and a powerful brand by offering superior quality and product innovation.
