Because we don't expect you to memorize all there is to know about food labels, nutrition claims, or what some of the long-lettered ingredients are (you know, the ones you may have difficulty pronouncing), we've developed this handy little guide for you.

Claim to Fame

  • Fat Free products contain no more than 0.5 grams of fat per serving.
  • Low-fat products contain no more than 3 grams of fat per serving.
  • Reduced-calorie food products are required to have at least 50% less calories than the same food that is not labeled "calorie reduced."
  • "Light" can mean light in calories, light in cholesterol, light in sodium, light in fat, light in colour, or light in flavour.
