ALMOND COOKIES

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 CUP (2 STICKS) BUTTER OR MARGARINE
  • 2 CUPS SUGAR
  • 1 EGG
  • 2 CUPS FLOUR
  • 2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
  • 1 TEASPOON VANILLA
  • 1 CUP WHOLE PLANTERS NATURAL (UNBLANCHED) ALMONDS
    SLICED OR SLIVERED ALMONDS

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 375°F.  Cream butter with sugar, blending until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, flour baking powder and vanilla. Grind almonds stop-and-go fashion in electric blender or use food processor.  Divide dough in halves.  Roll dough out on a flour surface until 1/8 inch thick.  Cut into desired shape. Decorate by pressing an almond gently into dough.  Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 7 to 8 minutes, just until edges start to turn golden.  Makes 4 to 5 dozen cookies,  depending on size.
